Two attacks on merchant ships occurred near the Strait of Hormuz

On May 3, two attacks on merchant ships occurred in the Strait of Hormuz. A tanker was struck by unidentified projectiles approximately 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah (UAE), while a bulk carrier was attacked by several small vessels near the Iranian city of Sirik. No crew members were injured in either incident.

This was reported by UKMTO.

In the first case, the tanker reported being struck by unknown projectiles. The incident occurred 78 nautical miles north of the UAE. The crew is safe, and no environmental pollution has been reported.

In the second case, the captain of a bulk carrier heading north reported an attack by several small vessels 11 nautical miles west of Sirik, Iran. The crew was also unharmed.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) urges all vessels in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

As a reminder, at the end of April, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz came to a near standstill again after a brief resumption.

Additionally, the U.S. military struck the vessel Touska, which was attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz under the Iranian flag despite the blockade.
