Two tourists died in the Polish Tatra Mountains
Two fatal accidents occurred in the Polish Tatra Mountains on Saturday. Two tourists died: one fell off the trail, and the other died during the ascent. TOPR rescuers responded to two calls throughout the day but were unable to save the victims.
The first accident occurred near the Skrajne Siczkowe Pass. A hiker fell off the trail while heading toward the Buchinowa Valley. Casual witnesses alerted rescuers to the fall. TOPR specialists immediately headed to the scene, but the man had sustained fatal injuries. “Most likely, he stumbled or slipped, lost his balance, and fell from a great height,” said the rescue officer on duty. The victim’s body was transported to Zakopane aboard a TOPR rescue helicopter.
Second Hiker Dies During Ascent
Another tragedy occurred during an ascent on the slope of Megushevetsky Peak near Morskie Oko. The victim’s climbing partner notified rescuers of the incident. A rescue team was dispatched to the scene, but they were unable to save the man. “A tragic incident occurred during the climb. We have not yet received any details about this case,” said a TOPR rescue officer on duty. The body of the second victim was also transported by helicopter to Zakopane.
Rescuers Warn of Heat
There are currently a large number of tourists in the Tatra Mountains. At the same time, the heat persists in the mountains, increasing the risk of dehydration and rapid fatigue. Rescuers advise checking the weather forecast and carefully planning your route before setting out. Be sure to bring plenty of water with you.
Weather conditions can change very quickly at high altitudes. According to the forecast, thunderstorms are expected in the Tatra Mountains on Sunday afternoon.
