George Clooney says the US is run by ‘the least competent people’
American actor George Clooney said at the Venice International Film Festival that the United States is run by “the least competent people.” He also expressed hope that after the US midterm elections, the country would be able to return to a more normal situation.

As reported by Anadolu Agency, citing the Italian agency ANSA, Clooney told journalists that it is not easy to live in a country run by such people. At the festival, the actor is being awarded the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement.
Clooney noted that the midterm elections will take place in November and will be a time to take stock. According to him, if events develop favorably, the United States will return to a more normal situation. Speaking about the political situation, the actor did not directly mention US President Donald Trump.

Criticism of cruelty
The actor also criticized what he called the normalization of cruelty in public discourse. He mentioned a social media post by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth regarding women serving in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Clooney called absurd the idea that cruelty becomes the foundation and part of public entertainment. He described the situation with the term “kakistocracy,” which refers to rule by the least qualified or worst people, and also asked where the sense of decency had gone.
