Ghana’s deputy finance minister calls for building a resilient economy
Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem said the country must build on its restored macroeconomic stability to create a productive, competitive and resilient economy over the next decade. He said this in Accra during the Business Roundtable Extended 2026 executive dialogue, MyJoyOnline reports.
Transition to growth
Ampem spoke on behalf of Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson. According to him, the country must shift its focus from correcting previous economic problems to expanding production, attracting investment and creating jobs.
“We have stabilised the present. Now we must secure the future,” the deputy minister said.

The event was organised by Ishmael Yamson & Associates. Its theme was building resilient economic foundations for the next decade following the adjustments that have been made.
The role of the state and business
The official said that reserves of economic resilience, higher productivity, effective institutions, inclusive growth and an active private sector are important for protecting the economy from future shocks.
He also called for increasing value addition, strengthening local production and reinforcing links between agriculture, industry, technology and skills development. In Ampem’s view, the state must provide stability, infrastructure, effective regulation and fiscal discipline, while the private sector should respond with investment, innovation, productivity, exports and job creation.
