Eizenkot says Israel’s internal security has reached a historic low — Anadolu Agency

Gadi Eizenkot, leader of the Israeli opposition party Yashar, said on September 28 that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had driven Israel’s internal security to a historic low. The politician wrote this on X, Anadolu Agency reports.

Shooting in the Negev

Eizenkot’s statement came after residents of the Givot Bar settlement in the northern Negev reported intense shooting on Saturday. According to the Yashar leader, the incident recalled fears associated with the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel by the Palestinian group Hamas and became further evidence of the Netanyahu government’s failures.

Eizenkot accused the government of being unable to ensure law enforcement. He said that criminal organizations operate throughout the Negev, while the authorities have failed to restore state control in the region.

Party proposals

The politician also said that Ben-Gvir focuses on populism and media headlines instead of effective police work and ensuring law and order. Yashar’s internal security plan calls for establishing a cabinet-level body to combat organized crime, strengthening police and intelligence capabilities, and providing additional resources to dismantle criminal groups and counter extortion in southern Israel.

Knesset elections in Israel are scheduled for October 27.
