Teenager in Seoul charged with attempted murder of ex-girlfriend — Korea Herald

In Seoul, South Korea, a teenager has been charged with the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend in a case involving an alleged stabbing attack in the city’s western Gangseo-gu district. According to the Korea Herald, after their breakup, he tried to contact the girl 84 times over four days.

Calls and messages

According to the indictment, on July 19, the girl told her ex-boyfriend that she wanted to end the relationship and did not want any further contact. Despite this, prosecutors say he repeatedly called and sent her messages.

Some of the messages contained references to suicide. In particular, the boy claimed that he had put his foot on a railing but then stepped back, and also wrote that his death would upset the girl.

Attack near the home

On July 23, an acquaintance told the teenager that his ex-girlfriend was allegedly seeing someone else. Prosecutors claim that after this, he decided to kill her, sent her an angry message and went to her home with a weapon.

When the girl went outside that day, he allegedly attacked her, pursued her as she tried to flee, and stabbed her several times. During the struggle, he lost the weapon but, as stated in the indictment, continued attacking the victim.

Neighbors who heard the girl’s screams restrained the suspect until police arrived. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries to her abdomen and other parts of her body; her life was not in danger. Police detained the boy at the scene and transferred him to prosecutors in custody. In August, he was charged, including with attempted murder and violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking.
