The European Commission coordinated the evacuation of EU citizens from the cruise ship MV Hondius, where an outbreak of hantavirus occurred.
This was reported by European Commission spokesperson Eva Hrnčirová.
According to her, four flights were organized under the Civil Protection Mechanism to repatriate people from the Spanish island of Tenerife, where the ship was located.
The EC stated that all necessary health protocols were followed during the evacuation and that they remain ready to provide additional logistical assistance.
At the same time, according to the WHO, the risk of Hantavirus infection for Europeans remains low at this time.
According to the latest data, three passengers on the cruise ship have died from the infection, and about ten more people have tested positive.

We also reported: Among the crew members of the MV Hondius, where a hantavirus outbreak was recorded, are five Ukrainian citizens. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that no signs of a deterioration in their health have been detected so far.
The disease on board the MV Hondius, owned by the Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions, which has claimed the lives of three passengers, may have been introduced by Argentine rats or mice.
