Former Ghana minister questions Carlos Queiroz’s appointment — MyJoyOnline

Former Ghanaian Minister of Youth and Sports Nii Lante Vanderpuye questioned the procedure for appointing Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars national football team. He also alleged possible corruption during the selection process, without providing evidence. MyJoyOnline reports.

Doubts over the coach selection

Vanderpuye voiced his criticism on Joy FM on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, after Ghana’s defeat to Gambia. According to him, more than 99 applications were received after the coaching vacancy was announced, but Queiroz was later appointed under circumstances the former minister considers questionable.

The former minister said he does not trust the appointment procedure. He also questioned when the Black Stars had publicly announced the search for a new coach and stressed that, after reports of a large number of applications, the manager was appointed suddenly.

Criticism after the match against Gambia

Vanderpuye also questioned Queiroz’s suitability for the role because of his age and his own assessment of the coach’s professional profile. In the former official’s view, Queiroz does not fit the type of specialist the Black Stars need.

The criticism came after the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Accra on September 29, in which Ghana lost to Gambia 2:4. Ghana led by two goals but failed to hold on to the advantage.
