Former bodyguard Ivanishvili has been appointed deputy head of Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs
Georgia has appointed Giorgi Bakhuashvili, who previously served as Bidzina Ivanishvili’s personal bodyguard, as deputy to the new head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
He is a billionaire, former prime minister, and honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
A statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the new appointment states that “Police Colonel Giorgi Bakhuashvili has been appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs under Sulkhan Tamazashvili.”
The ministry notes that Bakhuashvili has “many years of experience working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs” and that prior to this, he served as director of the ministry’s General Inspection Department.
Bakhuaashvili assumed the position of head of the General Inspectorate of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs on April 30, 2026.
Giorgi Bakhuashvili was previously Bidzina Ivanishvili’s personal bodyguard. Bakhuashvili provided security for Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family for 10 years.

The trend of restricting smartphones in schools is gaining momentum worldwide. According to UNESCO, by the end of 2024, 79 education systems (about 40% of the world’s) already had bans or restrictions on the use of phones in school.
Back in 2020, MP Oleksiy Goncharenko submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada proposing to ban the use of mobile devices and other internet-connected gadgets in schools during class.
