Ex-president Jonathan calls for unified civil servant salaries in Nigeria — Premium Times Nigeria
Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan called for the harmonization of the structure and pay of the country’s federal and state civil services. He made the statement on September 18 in Yenagoa during a foundation-laying and fundraising ceremony for the secretariat complex of the Bayelsa State Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries.
Proposal for the civil service
Jonathan emphasized the need to introduce a unified civil service structure across Nigeria. He also noted the initiative of the former permanent secretaries and said that the level of Bayelsa civil service employees is comparable to that of their colleagues at the federal level, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
The former president recalled that while serving as governor of Bayelsa, he reformed the state civil service. In particular, directors were placed on grade level 17, whereas they had previously retired at grade level 16.

Construction of the complex
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, represented at the event by Head of Service Ebiye Sawyer, pledged support for the project and noted the vision and dedication of the retired officials.
The association’s chairman, Collins Daniel, said the complex is planned to house administrative offices, event halls, conference rooms and recreational facilities. According to him, the cost of the complex is estimated at 500 million Nigerian naira, and construction is expected to be completed within two years.
