Yemen calls for strategic security partnership — Anadolu Agency
In Yemen, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi on September 17 called on international partners to move from crisis management to a strategic partnership in security, deterrence, state capacity-building, port protection, counterterrorism and combating smuggling. He made the statement during a meeting with French Ambassador to Yemen Catherine Corm-Kammoun on the occasion of the end of her term, Anadolu Agency reports, citing the state-run Saba agency.
Call to strengthen the state
Al-Alimi said that the existence of a strong Yemeni state had become a necessity for regional and international security. According to him, government forces are capable of regaining the initiative on the west coast and completing the restoration of government control over the entire territory of the country.
The council chairman also noted that temporary changes in the situation at the front would not alter Yemenis' aspiration to restore national institutions. He added that government troops continue operations on several fronts, regrouping and strengthening their capabilities.

Fighting on several fronts
According to al-Alimi, government forces are confronting the Houthis in the provinces of Taiz, Marib, Lahij, Al-Jawf, Hajjah, Al-Bayda and Al-Dhale. He opposed turning any temporary successes on the battlefield into a fait accompli or a means of threatening sea routes.
Al-Alimi also thanked the French diplomat for her work to strengthen bilateral relations and noted France's position on countering the arming and financing of the Houthis, as well as protecting freedom of international navigation.
The statement came amid military escalation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, as well as intensified clashes between the Houthis and Yemen's government forces. Anadolu Agency reports that the Houthis advanced along the west coast and took control of strategic areas in the provinces of Hodeidah and Taiz, including the city of Mocha and Mayyun Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. At the same time, government forces advanced in Al-Jawf province toward its administrative center, Al-Hazm.
