Israel continues attacks in southern Lebanon — Anadolu Agency

Israeli forces continued attacks on Thursday in the Tyre, Nabatieh, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil districts in southern Lebanon. The strikes included air raids, artillery shelling, gunfire, explosions, the destruction of homes with bulldozers and arson, Anadolu Agency reports.

Strikes in southern districts

In the Tyre district, aircraft carried out strikes on Al-Mansouri, including residential areas and infrastructure. According to Lebanon's National News Agency, residents of neighboring villages felt tremors. Artillery also shelled Al-Mansouri and Wadi al-Aziyeh on the outskirts of Al-Mansouri and Al-Hinniyeh. Overnight, strikes also hit Al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun and adjacent valleys.

Later, Israeli aircraft fired two missiles at Al-Mansouri, followed by another strike on the town. Israeli forces continued demolishing homes there with bulldozers.

In the Nabatieh district, a drone dropped a stun grenade near Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh. According to the agency, Israeli forces set homes on fire in Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh. Areas between the Ali al-Taher heights and the al-Dabsha hill, as well as the area between Mayfadoun and Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, came under artillery fire. The al-Dimashqiyeh area on the eastern outskirts of Kfar Tebnit was also shelled.

Artillery shelled the town of Hadatha in the Bint Jbeil district, while a powerful explosion occurred in Aita al-Shaab. Near Qabrikha in the Marjayoun district, Israeli forces opened machine-gun fire toward Wadi al-Hujair. Low-flying Israeli drones were also observed over Beirut, its southern suburbs and the Hermel district.

President Aoun's statement

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who was in Paris for a preparatory meeting ahead of an international conference in support of the Lebanese army and internal security forces, said that the attacks and occupation of part of the country's territory are obstructing the full implementation of the “framework formula” reached with Israel. According to him, Lebanon has fulfilled its obligations, but stabilization is impossible while attacks and violations continue.

On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a framework agreement in Washington mediated by the United States. It provides for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces. Lebanon's Health Ministry reported that from March 2 to September 17, Israeli attacks killed 4,386 people and injured another 12,407. According to the ministry, the total death toll since October 8, 2023, stands at 8,953, while 30,643 people have been injured.
