Fico warns of risk of wider conflict in Europe — Anadolu Agency

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said during a speech in Prešov that Europe is on the brink of a wider military conflict. According to him, tensions surrounding the war in Ukraine have reached an unprecedented level.

Position on NATO

Fico said that Slovakia remains committed to NATO, values cooperation within the Alliance and fulfills its obligations. At the same time, he stated that as head of government, he would do everything possible to prevent the country from being drawn into an armed conflict.

The Slovak prime minister also expressed the view that the war in Ukraine has gotten out of control and voiced concern over the intensification of military rhetoric in Europe. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing the Slovak news agency TASR.

Visit to Kyiv

Fico made the statement ahead of a visit to Ukraine scheduled for Friday. In Kyiv, he is expected to take part in a conference together with other European Union leaders, as well as meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.

Fico warned that the current peace could prove short-lived.
