The European Union will officially begin accession negotiations with Ukraine on June 15. This was announced by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
She emphasized that on that date, an intergovernmental conference between Ukraine and the European Union will take place, which will mark the formal start of the negotiation process within the first cluster of EU legislation, “Fundamentals.”
This cluster covers key areas, including the judiciary, the functioning of state institutions, the public procurement system, financial control, and statistics.
“The rule of law is one of the most important steps. Everything begins with it and ends with it. By confirming it, the candidate country receives a certificate that its movement toward the EU is being taken seriously,” Kos noted.
She also explained that after the opening of the negotiation cluster and the implementation of the necessary reforms, the European Commission prepares an Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR).
Following this, EU member states decide on the completion of the relevant stage of negotiations, according to Ukrinform.
Earlier, the Rada registered a resolution to accelerate negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
