The EU has imposed sanctions on Putin's spiritual advisor, Tikhon Shevkunov
The European Union has expanded its sanctions list against Russia, adding more than 80 individuals and entities. Among them is Tikhon (Georgy Shevkunov), Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea, whom the media refer to as Putin’s “spiritual advisor.”
According to the EU, Shevkunov actively spreads Russian propaganda, justifies aggression against Ukraine, denies Ukrainian sovereignty, and promotes disinformation narratives about “Nazism” in Ukraine.
Brussels also noted that through sermons, media platforms, state-sponsored cultural projects, and fundraising for the Russian military in the temporarily occupied Crimea, he supports Russia’s military actions.
The new sanctions package also includes a number of Russian officials, judges, security officials, propagandists, and companies linked to the Russian military-industrial complex, energy sector, and shadow fleet.
