Eurobank calls investment key to Cyprus healthcare development — Cyprus Mail
Eurobank said that investment and access to financing will be crucial for the further development of Cyprus’ healthcare sector. The bank said this during the 9th Cyprus Healthcare Conference in Nicosia, Cyprus Mail reports.
The role of banks in sector development
Eurobank Wholesale Banking General Manager Fivos Stasopoulos said at the conference that a modern healthcare system cannot develop without investment and access to capital. According to him, the role of banks is not limited to traditional lending: financial institutions can be strategic partners for the sector’s growth, innovation and transformation.
Eurobank believes that healthcare has become a dynamic sector of Cyprus’ economy in recent years. The bank named the Gesy general healthcare system as an important driver of this. In the institution’s assessment, private investment, new infrastructure and growing investor interest are creating additional opportunities for the sector’s expansion.
Digitalisation and medical tourism
The conference, held on Thursday, was dedicated to challenges and opportunities for the healthcare sector. Participants discussed digital transformation, artificial intelligence and the development of a sustainable healthcare services ecosystem in Cyprus.

Stasopoulos stressed that not only the availability of funds is important, but also the effective direction of capital toward projects and business models capable of creating value for patients, investors and the economy. He also drew attention to sector consolidation: in his view, greater scale can help medical institutions make better use of technology, provide more specialised services and strengthen competitiveness.
The bank noted that the sector’s expansion should be based on a clear strategy, proper corporate governance and sustainable business models. Eurobank also sees potential for Cyprus as a regional hub for medical tourism, rehabilitation centres, medical technology and research. According to Stasopoulos, cooperation among banks, investors and healthcare providers is needed to realise this potential.
Eurobank said it would support investments aimed at improving the competitiveness, international presence and sustainability of the healthcare sector, as well as the development of Cyprus’ economy.
