Police move migrants from Ceuta beaches to port — Asharq Al-Awsat

Police in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on Friday began moving hundreds of migrants from the beaches to the port area. The people are being taken to a new site with tents after several weeks of living on the beaches.

Tent accommodation

During the relocation, law enforcement officers struggled to contain crowds of people who were pushing in an attempt to secure a place at the new tent site. Asharq Al-Awsat reported this, citing AFP.

The caption of the published photo states that Spain's National Police were moving hundreds of migrants who had been sleeping in the open air to a site with several tents. The stated aim was to prevent people from continuing to spend nights on the street.

Crossing the border with Morocco

In July, tens of thousands of migrants crossed the border from Morocco and arrived in Ceuta. Most of them later returned, but several thousand people remained in the Spanish enclave.
