The European Commission has fined Temu €200 million
The European Commission has fined the online platform Temu €200 million for violating the Digital Services Act (DSA). Officials in Brussels stated that the company failed to adequately assess the risks associated with the sale of illegal goods on the platform.
The European Commission emphasized that users in the EU face a high risk of encountering illegal products when shopping on Temu.
Ganna Wirkkunen, European Commission Vice President for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, stated that Temu’s risk assessment was incomplete and not based on sufficient evidence.
According to her, the company underestimated the potential harm to European consumers, and the risk assessment process itself is a key requirement of the Digital Services Act.
Temu has been ordered to submit an action plan to address the violations by August 28, 2026. If the company fails to comply, it may face additional penalties.
As a reminder, France has filed a lawsuit against AliExpress and Joom over sex dolls shaped like children.
Previously, AliExpress violated EU rules regarding illegal goods.
