The European Parliament will consider the EU's participation in the commission on reparations for Ukraine
This week, during its plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament will consider the European Union’s accession to the International Claims Commission. This mechanism is intended to facilitate the further processing of claims for reparations owed to Ukraine and its citizens by the Russian Federation.

During this plenary week, the European Parliament plans to adopt a decision on the EU’s accession to the International Claims Commission, which is one of the steps in the process of compelling Russia to pay reparations to Ukraine.
"I have received a request from the European People’s Party group to apply the urgent procedure, in accordance with Rule 170, paragraph 6, regarding the following proposal: Convention on the Establishment of an International Commission for the Settlement of Claims Concerning Ukraine. A vote on this request will take place tomorrow," said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola as she opened the plenary session in Strasbourg on the evening of April 27.
She noted that if the decision to add this item to the agenda is adopted on Tuesday, April 28, the vote on the EU’s accession to the International Commission for the Settlement of Claims will take place on Thursday, April 30.
The vote on Tuesday, April 28, will take place between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Kyiv time.
If the vote is successful, the EU’s accession to the International Commission for the Settlement of Claims against Russia regarding Ukraine must be approved by the Council of the European Union.
The EU Council and the European Parliamenthave agreed on new trade rules.
As a reminder, in January–February 2026, Ukrainian customs authorities detected 1,822 customs violations totaling 460 million hryvnias. This is 24% more than during the same period last year.
