The European Parliament has lifted Shoshake's immunity: she faces charges in Romania

On April 28, the European Parliament voted to waive the immunity of Romanian MEP Diana Şoşoaacă at the request of the Romanian authorities.

This was reported by Digi24.

The decision allows her to be prosecuted in Romania, where a number of charges have been brought against her.

There are a total of 11 charges, including promoting the “Legionnaires” movement, glorifying war criminals, and denying the Holocaust.

Earlier, the relevant decision was supported by the European Parliament’s specialized committee, after which the matter was put to a vote in the plenary session.

Shoshoake criticized this decision, comparing the process to the repressions of the Stalin era, and stated her intention to challenge it in the EU Court of Justice.

She also claims that the European Parliament’s decision does not cover some of the allegations, particularly those related to her statements within the European Parliament itself, and insists that she should not be held accountable for statements made in the Romanian Parliament.

On Saturday, Romania’s Central Election Bureau barred the controversial leader of the SOS party, Diana Shoshoake, from participating in the presidential election.

Controversial politician Diana Shoshoake, leader of the SOS Romania party, arrived at the Romanian Prosecutor General’s Office, where she is to be informed of her status in a complex case involving a series of charges.
