On the Greek island of Crete, law enforcement authorities have detained a 37-year-old man who is reasonably suspected of planning a series of terrorist attacks against targets linked to Israel.

The arrest took place in the city of Agios Nikolaos in the northeast of the island, where the suspect was living with other employees.

The suspect is a native of the Gaza Strip who was residing and working legally in Greece as a seasonal employee at one of the local hotels.

During initial searches of his residence, law enforcement officers discovered precision scales and a glass measuring cup.

Currently, forensic experts and representatives of the counterterrorism unit are also carefully examining digital evidence seized during the investigation.

The suspect has already provided initial testimony to investigators, in which he revealed details of his illegal activities.

In his initial testimony, he stated that he had not yet manufactured an explosive device but had ordered materials online that could be used to make explosives.

In addition, according to investigators, the suspect had previously traveled to Malaysia specifically to learn how to make explosive devices. He has a wife and three children back home in the Gaza Strip.

Greek authorities also quickly established his direct connection to suspects detained in Cyprus in connection with the planning of terrorist attacks against targets linked to Israel.

Officials stated that the suspect did not exhibit any suspicious activity while working at the hotel and was not yet ready to carry out a terrorist attack.

However, security forces feared that he might attempt to carry out an attack in the near future, either in Crete or elsewhere in Greece.

This was reported by the Greek publication eKathimerini, citing official data from local intelligence agencies.
