Europe faces a jet fuel shortage due to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz — FT

European countries may face a shortage of aviation fuel as early as the coming weeks due to supply issues through the Strait of Hormuz.

This is reported by the Financial Times.

Industry representatives have warned the European Commission that if shipping in the region does not resume soon, the shortage will become systemic.

The approaching summer season, when demand for air travel traditionally rises, is creating additional pressure.

Amid the escalating situation in the Middle East, jet fuel prices in Northwestern Europe have skyrocketed—from approximately $750 to over $1,500 per ton.

Industry sources note that current stockpiles will last only a few weeks, and future supplies remain uncertain.

Starting April 5, leading Chinese airlines will increase the fuel surcharge for domestic flights in mainland China sixfold, which will significantly impact ticket prices for passengers.

German airline Lufthansa is developing a contingency plan in case flights are suspended due to rising jet fuel prices, CEO Carsten Spohr told company employees.
