The European Union warns against trusting Russia's statements following the conversation between Trump and Putin
The European Union has reiterated its position that it cannot trust any actions or statements by Russia following a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and the Russian leader.
This was reported by Ukrinform, citing a statement by European Commission spokesperson Anitta Hepper during a briefing in Brussels. The spokesperson emphasized that the EU welcomes U.S. efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace, as this is a shared goal of the partners.
Anitta Hipper declined to comment on the Russian side’s claims regarding alleged common positions between the US and Russia regarding the Ukrainian government. She emphasized that Russia’s intentions remain very clear and consist of killings, torture, and drone attacks on civilians. According to the European Commission representative, it is precisely because of such criminal activities by the aggressor that none of its words can be trusted.
Brussels’ position remains unchanged on the issue of international security and support for Ukraine. The EU continues to insist that any diplomatic contacts must not ignore the actual situation on the front lines and Russia’s war crimes. Official representatives of the European Commission once again called on the international community to judge the aggressor by its actions, not by the results of phone calls or the Kremlin’s propaganda messages.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin informed U.S. President Donald Trump of his readiness to declare a temporary ceasefire for the period of the so-called “Victory Day.”
During a phone call with Donald Trump on April 29, Putin used the opportunity to promote his own narratives regarding the war against Ukraine.
