Taiwanese farmer sells out pomelos after refusing sales to China — Taipei Times
Farmer Liu Zi-hao from Ruisui in Hualien County, Taiwan, said he sold out all of his pomelos after publicly refusing to sell the fruit to China. Taiwanese buyers began actively ordering his products following the farmer's post, Taipei Times reports.

In his post, Liu described himself as a farmer from Hualien and said that he would not sell pomelos to China. The publication received many approving comments: users expressed support and bought boxes of fruit. After the post spread on Chinese social media, negative comments also appeared there. Some users wrote that they did not need Taiwanese fruit.
Liu is well known in the local community and has for many years headed a marketing group of farmers growing fruit in Ruisui. He said that he does not belong to any political party and considers himself a small farmer. Liu also said that Taiwanese people do not need to humiliate themselves before anyone.

Last month, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the People's Republic of China said that China's General Administration of Customs had registered another 79 Taiwanese pomelo orchards and packing facilities in Hualien County. This allowed more Taiwanese producers to export pomelos to China.
The farmer grows pomelos on an area of more than 10 hectares. According to the publication, this year's harvest amounted to hundreds of thousands of kilograms and filled the entire packing plant. Liu said that all of his pomelos had already been sold, although some orders were still awaiting shipment.
The farmer explained his cautious attitude toward sales in China by saying that a box of fruit there sells for less than 200 or 300 New Taiwan dollars. Instead, he sells his products directly to customers online, develops his own brand and relies on his reputation as a quality producer and on regular customers.
