Finland uses heat from data centres to warm homes and saunas
In Finland, heat generated by data centres is now being used to warm homes and saunas. Previously, the heated water was simply discarded, but it is now redirected into the city heating system, significantly reducing heating costs, easing the load on power plants, and cutting carbon dioxide emissions.

Earlier reports indicated that Finnish mining companies provide heating for around 140,000 people, roughly 2.5% of the country’s population. This initiative stands as a successful example of efficient resource use and environmental innovation.
This approach may serve as a model for other countries and promote further development of sustainable heating technologies amid the global energy transition.
