Fico inaugurated the renovated Red Army Cemetery with the participation of the Russian Federation
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico attended the opening of a renovated cemetery where Red Army soldiers are buried. The event was supported by Russia and fulfilled a promise he had made to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin less than three weeks ago.

More than 17,000 Soviet soldiers are buried at the cemetery in Michalovce, a city in eastern Slovakia located 360 kilometers from the capital. It is the largest cemetery of its kind in the country.
“This is a moment when the Slovak government has the opportunity to fulfill its obligations,” Fico said on Wednesday, May 27, at the Central Military Memorial Cemetery of the Red Army.
According to him, the renovation was co-financed by the Russian Embassy.
Fico called himself the “black sheep” of the EU while in Moscow.
During his visit to Moscow, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico likely conveyed to Putin a signal that Ukraine is ready for a summit-level meeting to end the war.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico confirmed his intention to visit Moscow on May 9 to meet with Putin during Victory Day celebrations. However, he will not attend the parade.
