France proposed cooperation with India on the Strait of Hormuz — Anadolu Agency
In New York, United States, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot proposed that India work jointly to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, he also discussed Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Talks with India
Barrot and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stressed the need to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, Anadolu Agency reports, citing the French Foreign Ministry. The French minister also recalled the Franco-British initiative launched to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The sides reaffirmed their commitment to international law and support for effective reformed multilateral cooperation. They also mentioned their intention to reform the UN Security Council, expressed support for a ceasefire in Ukraine and for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law.

The ministers welcomed progress in the comprehensive special strategic partnership between France and India, particularly in defense, new technologies and higher education.
Contacts with Pakistan
During a separate meeting with Dar, Barrot discussed the regional situation and spoke favorably of Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States. The French minister stressed the need for the most inclusive possible negotiations to facilitate energy supplies and a long-term response to nuclear, ballistic and regional threats that France links to Iran.
France and Pakistan agreed to continue developing bilateral relations, including university and cultural cooperation, as well as interaction in the field of sustainable development.
