French intelligence considers possible Russian attacks in autumn 2027 — Anadolu Agency

In France, intelligence services are considering autumn 2027 as a possible timeframe for large-scale Russian attacks. According to Anadolu Agency, France Télévisions cited a confidential note mentioning this possible timeframe. Previously, a scenario for 2030 had been considered.

Possible targets

Potential targets could include strategic infrastructure facilities: power plants and electricity grids, railways, telecommunications networks, and drinking water supply facilities.

Former deputy director of French military intelligence Alain Chrétien told France Télévisions that one hypothetical scenario could involve the use of an explosive-laden drone against a French defense industry facility. According to him, it could be difficult to establish Russia's involvement in such an attack, and France currently has no capability to fully protect itself against such a scenario.

Measures by the French authorities

On Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron held a confidential meeting with presidential candidates and leaders of political parties. He said the topic of discussion was the growing Russian hybrid threat to France and Europe.

Macron said that the government would prepare a plan to protect critical infrastructure and sensitive facilities of the country's defense-industrial and technological base from drone attacks and cyberattacks. The government also instructed prefects to create security and defense groups involving local police, intelligence services, military personnel, education authorities, businesses, and emergency services.
