Man hospitalised in Ghana after machete attack — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, a resident of Kenyasi No. 2, Opoku Afrie, was hospitalised at the Asutifi North District Hospital after an alleged machete attack. According to MyJoyOnline, the man is in critical condition.

The victim’s account

Afrie, who works as a sound equipment operator and commercial motorcyclist, said the incident occurred on Thursday while he was transporting a passenger on a motorcycle. According to him, a prison officer and three inmates from the Kenyasi Camp Prison in the Ahafo Region intercepted him and attacked him with machetes.

The man claims that the attackers accused him of stealing yams from the farm of a prison officer. According to his account, he sustained deep injuries to his arms, legs, abdomen, neck and other parts of his body.

The victim also said that another prison officer later handcuffed him and took him to the Kenyasi Camp Prison. There, according to him, another officer repeatedly slapped him, after which the man was handed over to Kenyasi police.

He remains at the medical facility and, according to his own account, is experiencing severe pain in his abdomen, head, eyes and lower back. The man also reported serious injuries to his fingers and hands.

Afrie expressed concern that the people he accuses of the attack have not yet been detained. He called on authorities to investigate the case, hold those responsible accountable and requested financial assistance to cover medical expenses.

The Asutifi District Police Command, led by Superintendent Harold Yamoah Ponkor, has launched an investigation. Police are expected to provide further information after it is completed.
