Israeli dies in Slovenia while rescuing son from gorge — Jerusalem Post
In Slovenia, 44-year-old Israeli Hail Hillel died while trying to rescue his seven-year-old son, who fell into a gorge during a family trip. According to the Jerusalem Post, the boy sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to the University Medical Centre Ljubljana.
Fall near a waterfall
The tragedy occurred near the Slap Savica waterfall in the Bohinj area in northwestern Slovenia. The family stopped at a rest area with tables and benches after visiting the waterfall.
According to police in the Kranj district, the boy walked away from his family, after which his relatives heard him calling for help. The father began searching for his son and fell into the gorge while trying to reach him.

Rescue operation
Rescuers found the man in the Savica River bed with injuries incompatible with life. His death was pronounced at the scene. Initially, the Bohinj mountain rescue service received information only about the child's fall, but it later emerged that the father had also fallen into the gorge.
Some rescuers were conducting training nearby at the time of the incident and were therefore able to arrive quickly. They descended about 60 meters to the riverbed, reached the father and son, and prepared them for evacuation. Hillel's body was later lifted from the steep area using ropes.
Slovenian police continue to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy. Once the investigation is complete, the case materials will be handed over to the relevant district prosecutor's office.
