Ajadi remembers late father on what would have been his 90th birthday — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria, lawyer, creative consultant and leadership specialist Adewale Ajadi wrote a personal column for the day his late father, Muritali Aderogba Ajadi, would have turned 90. In an article for Premium Times Nigeria, he calls his father Rogba — as an expression of closeness and an attempt to remember him not only as a father, but also as a person.
Documents and memories
Ajadi writes that for more than 30 years, he has been reviewing his father’s correspondence, receipts, records and documents concerning assets. According to him, these materials reveal a person with a wide range of pursuits who helped others without publicity.
The author states that his father paid for the education of people who were not family members, including up to university level. He also recalls that after the death of Alhaji, his father cleared the encumbrance on the house of a woman whom the author calls Mama Gate, on Old Ife Road. Ajadi describes his father as a person for whom the community was important and notes that his help to others continued after Alhaji’s death.

Banking experience and legacy
In the column, Ajadi calls his father a banker who, after working at a bank, also had a number of business pursuits. He recalls asking his father to invest on his behalf in NICON NUGA Hilton. At first, he called such an investment unsuccessful, but the son later learned that his father had invested after all, explaining that Ajadi had to work independently for his own well-being.
The author also recalls that shortly before writing the text, an IPO for Dangote Refinery shares was announced, and suggests that his father might have invested in them. Ajadi writes that he continues to hold an internal dialogue with his father about his own intentions and decisions, while the family honours his memory and legacy.
