Ghana repatriates body of citizen killed in South Africa
According to MyJoyOnline, the Ghanaian government has repatriated the body of 37-year-old Ghanaian citizen Nash Amunu Jaylor. He died in the city of East London, South Africa, in March 2026 as a result of an alleged mob attack.
Remains handed over to the family
Jaylor's remains arrived in Ghana on September 3, 2026, at 15:00. After their arrival, the body was handed over to his family.
The repatriation was organized by the government through Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The deceased's family did not pay for the transportation: the state covered all costs of transporting the remains from South Africa.

Call for an investigation
Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed condolences to the family and assured them of state support. He also urged the relatives to remain strong as they cope with the loss.
Through Ghana's High Commission in Pretoria, the country's authorities are seeking a swift investigation into the circumstances of Jaylor's death and calling for justice to be ensured. The government seeks to establish the circumstances that led to the alleged mob attack and the death of the Ghanaian citizen.
Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions are expected to continue monitoring the case and engaging with the relevant South African authorities.
