ISPR chief Chaudhry calls fight against terrorism a priority — Dawn
In Pakistan, Director General of ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that the fight against terrorism is a state priority and cannot be sacrificed to political interests. He said this during a press conference on October 1, Dawn reports.
Discussion on countering terrorism
Responding to a question about Pakistani politicians who advocated negotiations with the Afghan Taliban movement on terrorism, Chaudhry noted that approaches to countering this threat may differ. At the same time, he stressed the need to discuss and coordinate further actions.
According to the military spokesperson, Pakistan has been fighting terrorism for more than two decades, losing over 100,000 people during that time and suffering economic losses. He also stated that the country’s political and social fabric has been affected by the consequences of terrorism.

Calls to adhere to agreed plans
Chaudhry recalled the National Action Plan, which Pakistan’s political leadership developed and later revised, as well as the Azm-i-Istehkam concept. He called these documents the result of consensus and urged adherence to them.
The ISPR director general also spoke of what he called an “existential threat” posed by terrorism allegedly supported by India. He stressed that police, intelligence officers, servicemen and officers take part in countering terrorism every day.
Asked about the PTI party’s march to Islamabad planned for October 4, Chaudhry replied that the army does not take part in politics and will not comment on political issues.
