Herzog attended the wedding of the daughter of former Hamas hostages — Jerusalem Post

In Israel, Yuli Ben-Ami, the daughter of Raz and Ohad Ben-Ami, who were held captive by Hamas, got married. Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal attended the ceremony, the Jerusalem Post reports.

President's statement

In a post on X, Herzog called the wedding a moment of pure victory and happiness. He mentioned the efforts of Yuli and her sisters Ella and Natalie, who advocated for the return of their parents, as well as the difficult images of Ohad after his captivity.

According to the president, the sisters never lost hope that the family would be together again. Herzog also noted that it is difficult to describe the joy of having the entire family gathered at their daughter's wedding three years after the tragedy.

The Ben-Ami family story

Herzog also praised the actions of Yuli's partner Roberto Meir on October 7. According to him, Meir fought terrorists in the kibbutz and stood beside Yuli under the chuppah during the ceremony.

The Ben-Ami family took an active part in the campaign for the return of the hostages. Yuli also joined a protest near the prime minister's home together with other hostage families.

Raz Ben-Ami was released after 54 days of detention in Gaza under a hostage release deal. Ohad Ben-Ami was released after 491 days in captivity together with Or Levy and Eli Sharabi.
