FBI Director Patel Defends Hiring Rule Changes at US Senate Hearing
In Washington, US, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel defended recent changes to hiring rules during a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee. They allow the consideration of some applicants who engaged in prostitution or bestiality. Patel insisted that the purpose of the changes is to allow victims of such acts to apply for vacancies without automatic disqualification.
Dispute with Democrats
According to The Hindu International, the issue was raised during a tense meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Patel also argued with Democrats over the dismissal of agents who took part in investigations involving President Donald Trump.

Election issue
The FBI chief also suggested that agents could be sent to polling stations on election day. This comes amid concerns from the US Department of Justice and the White House about possible election fraud.
The hearing took place two months before the US midterm elections scheduled for November. By that time, the FBI had opened investigations related to the 2020 elections, including seizing voter data in Fulton County, Georgia.
