German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Ankara has the potential to influence an end to the war against Ukraine and the de-escalation of the conflict in Iran. In his view, Turkey’s diplomatic channels and its regional influence could play a key role in finding solutions.
The minister made these remarks during a press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Berlin, Reuters reports.
Wadeful added that the European Union and Turkey must strengthen their strategic ties.
"Turkey has the potential to exert significant influence on these trouble spots not only because of its geographical proximity, but also because of its immense political and economic significance," the German minister said.
He added that Germany advocates for Turkey’s positions to be taken into account when developing EU defense and industrial policy.
"If Turkey wishes to join the European Union, it will find a friendly and reliable partner in Germany," the German foreign minister assured.
