Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Dar arrives in New York for UN General Assembly — Dawn
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in New York, United States, to take part in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, which will run from September 21 to 25. Dawn reports, citing Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
On the sidelines of the session, Dar met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. The sides discussed bilateral relations between Pakistan and France, as well as regional and international issues.
Talks with France
According to Pakistan’s foreign affairs ministry, Dar said Islamabad seeks to strengthen ties with France through more active political dialogue, trade and investment, educational contacts, and people-to-people exchanges.
The foreign ministers also discussed Palestine. They stressed that the issue must remain among the priorities of the international agenda. Dar highly praised France’s efforts to support a two-state solution, while Barrot noted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at peace and stability in the region.

The sides also exchanged views on Iran. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said they stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic contacts and regional efforts to resolve the crisis, as well as implementing the Islamabad Memorandum. They also emphasized the need to ensure the security and free movement of maritime transport, as well as uninterrupted energy supplies.
Program on the sidelines of the General Assembly
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Dar is scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings and take part in ministerial forums. He will also accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who, according to the ministry, was due to arrive in New York later this week.
The Pakistani diplomat’s program includes a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, meetings on Palestine, including with the participation of eight Arab-Islamic countries, as well as a ministerial meeting of the global alliance for implementing the two-state solution.
Dar is expected to speak at a high-level UN Security Council meeting dedicated to artificial intelligence and chair a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization. Pakistan’s delegation to the General Assembly was reduced as part of government austerity measures; it will consist primarily of Dar and senior foreign policy adviser Tariq Fatemi.
