Taiwan's Foreign Minister Will Visit the U.S. Following Trump's Meeting with Xi
Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jia-long, will arrive in Arizona on October 3, where he will hold meetings with U.S. officials and representatives of the semiconductor industry.
During the visit, he plans to participate in the opening of Taiwan’s new representative office in Phoenix, meet with local officials, and visit the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plant.
According to a Taiwanese official, the trip is intended to strengthen support for Taiwanese companies investing in the U.S. and to promote the creation of industrial clusters in cooperation with the U.S. government and scientific institutions.
The visit will take place about a week after U.S. President Donald Trump meets with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Washington. Following their talks, the two countries agreed to maintain a trade truce until early 2027.
At the same time, Taiwan remains one of the most sensitive issues in relations between Washington and Beijing. During the meeting, Xi called on the U.S. to oppose the island’s independence. Taipei seeks to deepen economic ties with the U.S., in particular by leveraging its role in global semiconductor manufacturing.
