Grossi shared with Ukraine the methodology for operating nuclear power plants during wartime

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi arrived in Ukraine on the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and shared a unique methodology for operating nuclear power plants in wartime conditions.

This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“During the meeting, Rafael Grossi shared a unique methodology for the operation of nuclear power plants during wartime. We agreed on this last July. This unique IAEA document will serve as a foundation for global best practices and help prevent potential disasters,” Shmyhal said.

Separately, the minister thanked the IAEA for additional support, specifically the transfer of two ambulances for the South Ukraine and Chernobyl nuclear power plants.

According to him, this will enhance the capacity to respond to emergencies.

“I thank Rafael Grossi for his visit on the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and for all the support provided,” Shmyhal concluded.

Earlier, it was reported that the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the IAEA had expanded their cooperation in the field of energy infrastructure restoration and nuclear energy development.

The relevant memorandum provides for enhanced technical support and the development of Ukraine’s nuclear sector.
