Gaza patients face forced return from East Jerusalem hospitals amid war
Yamen Al-Najjar, a 16-year-old from Gaza, has spent the past year in a hospital in East Jerusalem with his mother, Halfa Al-Najjar, battling a rare immune disorder. After two years of seeking World Health Organization (WHO) approval for medical transfer, the family finally secured permission — but now face deportation.

Israeli authorities have ordered hospitals to return Gazan patients, including those undergoing life-saving treatment. “I can’t comprehend how a sick child can be sent back to a war zone,” Halfa said. “This is a death sentence for my son.”
According to WHO, more than 54% of Gaza’s hospitals have been destroyed or damaged, leaving patients without safe access to care. Doctors warn that deporting these patients would amount to a collapse of humanitarian medical ethics amid the ongoing conflict.
