Mexico News Daily’s Sheinbaum Index rises to a record 69.3 points
Mexico News Daily’s own index, which assesses the situation in Mexico under the presidency of Claudia Sheinbaum, increased by 1.8 points in July 2026 to a record 69.3 out of 100. Over three months, the indicator gained 9.3 points. The index consists of eight equally weighted indicators, including inflation, security, economic growth, employment, tourism and business confidence.
On the publication’s scale, a result of 60 to 75 points means the administration is performing fairly well, although some areas need improvement. In July, scores rose for six of the index’s eight components and declined for two.
Inflation and security
The inflation indicator made the largest contribution to the overall result for the third consecutive month, at 12.2 out of 12.5 points. Annual inflation in Mexico fell from 3.37% in June to 3.12% in July. This is the lowest figure since May 2020 and 0.12 percentage points above the Bank of Mexico’s 3% target.
The security score increased from 9.44 to 9.84 points. According to data cited by the publication, the number of homicides in July was 34.8% lower than a year earlier, while the annual decline in June was 32.5%. The score for the labor poverty component rose to 10.25 points, in particular due to an 8% annual increase in real incomes.

The country’s export revenue increased by nearly 44% year-on-year in July, reaching a record US$81.4 billion.
The average approval rating for Sheinbaum’s performance, calculated by the publication based on polls, was 68.5%, compared with 68% in June. The unemployment rate remained at 2.9% in July, while the share of informal employment was 56.2%.
At the same time, the tourism score fell to 6.91 points from 7.91 points a month earlier: international arrivals in June increased by 2.1% year-on-year after rising by 5.3% in May. The business confidence indicator fell to 5.33 points due to slower growth in foreign direct investment: in the first half of 2026, it rose by 2.1% year-on-year, while growth in the first quarter was 10.4%.
