India and Chile to start negotiations on trade deal — The Hindu

India and Chile have agreed to begin negotiations on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement. The decision was announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after talks with Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font, who was on a five-day state visit to India. Trade and copper

Modi said that the parties had begun discussions on a mutually beneficial and comprehensive trade agreement. He announced this on April 1, 2025. Prior to this, state-owned mining companies from both countries reached an agreement that is expected to expand Chile's access to India's mineral extraction market.

CODELCO, the world's largest copper producer, signed an agreement with India's Hindustan Copper Ltd. According to the publication, this arrangement could reduce Chile's dependence on the Chinese market.

Cooperation in Antarctica

During the meeting, India and Chile also agreed to deepen cooperation in Antarctic research. The talks between Modi and Boric focused on expanding bilateral ties in several areas, including trade and defense.

The Indian prime minister also raised the issue of current international disputes and said that they should be resolved peacefully through dialogue.
