China’s railway investment rises to $76.3 billion

In China, fixed-asset investment in the railway sector reached 511.8 billion yuan, or $76.3 billion, in the first eight months of 2026. This is 1.5% more than in the same period of the previous year.

China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. reported the figure on Wednesday, September 16. The company’s data were cited by ECNS.

Investment from January to August

The reported volume covers the period from January to August 2026. The statement gives the investment amount in yuan and in its dollar equivalent.

The company also reported progress on major railway projects in the country. One of them was the Wenling–Yuhuan section of the Hangzhou–Taizhou high-speed railway.

New high-speed railway section

The Wenling–Yuhuan section opened in August. After its opening, the fastest rail journey between Hangzhou and Yuhuan was reduced to 1 hour and 47 minutes.
