Iraq has vowed to punish those who launch drone attacks from its territory

Iraq has vowed to punish those who launch drone attacks from its territory

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi issued a stern warning and announced that “necessary measures” would be taken against individuals or groups responsible for carrying out military attacks on neighboring Persian Gulf countries from Iraqi territory.

This was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The head of government’s official statement was made during an emergency meeting of the National Security Council. The prime minister clearly emphasized that his cabinet would not tolerate any attempts to jeopardize the security of Iraq itself or any other brotherly states in the region.

This public reaction from Baghdad came just a few hours after the diplomatic leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) called on the Iraqi authorities to take urgent and unconditional measures to completely stop any hostile acts coordinated from Iraqi territory. Currently, Saudi Arabia and the UAE jointly assert that recent dangerous drone attacks on their facilities were launched specifically from Iraqi territory. In particular, the UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed that one such large-scale attack, which occurred on May 17 and struck the Barakah civilian nuclear power plant, led to a significant increase in regional tensions and caused serious concern among the international community regarding the threat of further escalation.
