Iran called Trump's statement about U.S. control of the Strait of Hormuz a lie
The Iranian military has dismissed as a lie U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the United States’ alleged full control over the Strait of Hormuz. Ibrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesman for Iran’s Central Military Command, stated that the strategic waterway is under the full control of the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to Euronews.
According to Zolfaghari, U.S. claims that ships are passing through the strait normally are lies and fabrications. In a video address broadcast on state television, he stated that no commercial vessel or tanker can safely pass through the strait without the permission and supervision of the Iranian armed forces.
Iran, according to Euronews, claims to have controlled the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on February 28 and requires ships to obtain permission and pay transit fees. On Wednesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the U.S. has full control over the strait and, in his view, will maintain it. He also called the U.S. naval blockade a “wall of steel” and stated that Iran cannot counter it.

Hossein Taeb, head of the “Basij” paramilitary forces within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, also asserted Tehran’s control over the strait. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, for his part, accused the U.S. of miscalculating the situation surrounding the waterway.
Iranian lawmaker Behnam Saidi told state television that Israeli ships are prohibited from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and that U.S. military ships will also not be allowed to travel this route. Iran and Oman are negotiating the creation of a new route through the strait, but the talks have not yet been concluded. Iranian media, citing official sources, reported that the opening of the strait will depend on the U.S. lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports.
