Iran has threatened to enrich uranium to 90% in the event of a new U.S. strike
Iran may begin enriching uranium to 90% purity if the country comes under attack from the U.S. again.
This was stated by Ebrahim Rezaei, a spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, on social media, according to The Guardian.
“One of Iran’s options in the event of another attack could be enriching (uranium – ed.) to 90%. We will consider this issue in parliament,” Rezaei wrote.
According to available information, Tehran still has over 400 kg of uranium enriched to 60%. Experts believe this is only a small technical step away from the level required to produce nuclear weapons—approximately 90%.
At the same time, Iranian authorities continue to insist that the country’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful in nature.
U.S. President Donald Trump previously stated that one of the key objectives of the American campaign against Iran is to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also emphasized that Israel will not stop applying pressure as long as Iran maintains stockpiles of highly enriched uranium.
“This is not the end, because Iran still has nuclear material—enriched uranium—that needs to be removed from the country. There are still enrichment facilities that need to be destroyed,” Netanyahu said on CBS.
Tehran’s latest statements indicate a further escalation of the conflict surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. Against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East and mutual threats between Iran, the U.S., and Israel, the issue of nuclear security has once again become a major focus in international politics.
U.S. President Donald Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with the progress of negotiations with Iran to end the conflict and is considering the possibility of resuming large-scale military operations against Tehran.
Trump denies that the war with Iran is over and announces new objectives.
Britain has called on Iran to fully open the Strait of Hormuz and restore international shipping, which has been operating intermittently since the situation escalated.
Recall that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not consider the war with Iran to be over.
Official Tehran has refused to participate in the second round of peace talks with the United States, which were to take place in Islamabad.
Iran rejected Trump’s claims about transferring uranium to the U.S. and accused him of manipulation.
