Iran is considering strikes against U.S. forces in Europe, according to the FT

Iran is reportedly considering the possibility of striking U.S. military facilities in Europe if Washington moves to further escalate the war.

According to the publication’s sources, Iran is discussing possible attacks on U.S. facilities in Southeast European countries as a way to raise the stakes in the event of a further deterioration in relations with the U.S.

Bulgaria and Cyprus are reportedly among the possible targets.

In particular, Bulgaria last month authorized the use of the Bezmer airbase for refueling U.S. military aircraft.

Cyprus is also mentioned in connection with the fact that a British military airbase on the island was attacked by a strike drone in March.

According to the Financial Times, Tehran has already threatened the United Kingdom with strikes on facilities that could be used by the U.S. military as part of a campaign against Iran.

In addition to strikes on military facilities, Iran is reportedly considering damaging undersea cables in the Strait of Hormuz.

Sources cited by the Financial Times emphasize that the possibility of expanding the scope of hostilities will depend on Washington’s next moves.

At the same time, the information about Iran’s potential plans comes from insider sources in Tehran, so at this point we are talking specifically about possible scenarios, not a confirmed decision to carry out such attacks.

The Financial Times reports this, citing two sources in Tehran.

U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed officials in his administration to halt negotiations with Iran and intensify economic pressure on Tehran. According to CNN, Washington no longer expects a quick diplomatic resolution and is seeking to force Iran to agree to a deal on U.S. terms.

Hardline Iranian leaders may have devised a plan to prepare for a new phase of the war. According to The Wall Street Journal, Tehran is tightening control over the military, increasing the production of missiles and drones, and attempting to expand the zone of conflict.

The heavy losses of Reaper drones in the war with Iran highlight one of the main challenges of modern warfare: even an expensive, high-tech drone can quickly become vulnerable when operating against an enemy with a powerful air defense system, according to The Washington Post.

The U.S. has sufficient military resources to maintain a naval blockade of Iran indefinitely. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagseth stated that American ships can continuously rotate in the region, so Washington is capable of maintaining pressure on Tehran for as long as necessary.
