Iran Has Set New Conditions for the U.S. to Continue Negotiations — Reuters

The negotiation process between the U.S. and Iran has been jeopardized after Tehran announced a series of new demands for continuing the dialogue. This calls into question the prospects for reaching a future agreement between the parties.

The talks were scheduled to take place on June 30 in Doha, the capital of Qatar. However, the Iranian delegation refused to engage in direct talks with the American side, proposing instead a format for dialogue through Qatari mediators.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that further progress depends entirely on Washington’s actions. According to him, the U.S. must demonstrate a genuine willingness to engage in diplomacy and completely abandon military pressure. The Iranian official emphasized that Tehran will not engage in negotiations under the threat of new U.S. attacks. The Iranian side cites the achievement of a ceasefire as the main prerequisite for resuming a full-fledged diplomatic process.

As Reuters notes, the new round of talks was initiated following the recent major escalation between Iran and Israel. Against the backdrop of these events, U.S. President Donald Trump publicly stated his willingness to return to discussions on Iran’s nuclear program. Despite this, Tehran continues to steadfastly insist on its right to develop peaceful nuclear energy and to enrich uranium independently as part of its national program.

As a reminder, on June 26, global oil prices fell by approximately 2% due to an increase in the number of tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz

Exports of mineral fertilizers through the Strait of Hormuz have shown rapid growth, bringing supply volumes to the global market back to the levels recorded before the military escalation began.
