Iran has set conditions for the U.S. to reopen the Strait of Hormuz — NYT

The Iranian government has unveiled a comprehensive ten-point plan aimed at ending the armed conflict with the United States and Israel.

This was reported by The New York Times.

Pakistan acted as a mediator in delivering the document to the American side and is currently playing a key role in the negotiation process between the countries.

The Iranian side’s main demand is the complete lifting of all international sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic.

In addition to economic concessions, Tehran is demanding guarantees of non-aggression in the future and an immediate halt to Israeli strikes against the Hezbollah group in Lebanon.

According to high-ranking Iranian officials, if these conditions are met, Iran is ready to lift the de facto blockade of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

However, this does not mean a full return to the previous regime of free navigation in the region.

Under the new plan, Iran intends to impose a mandatory fee of approximately $2 million on every vessel passing through the strait.

The Iranian authorities plan to share the proceeds with Oman, which is located on the opposite bank of the waterway.

Tehran claims it will allocate its share of the revenue exclusively to rebuilding infrastructure damaged by attacks from the U.S. and Israel.

The Iranian side calls this approach an alternative to direct monetary compensation for damages incurred during the conflict.

As a reminder, the UAE may join the US in forcibly opening the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump also threatened Iran with “destruction overnight” and issued an ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
