Iran says US attack on vessel killed one and injured three

In Iran, one person was killed and three others were injured as a result of a strike on a commercial vessel in gulf waters near Qeshm Island. Iranian authorities said the vessel was attacked by the United States.

Statement by Iranian authorities

As Anadolu Agency reports, state broadcaster IRIB, citing Qeshm Governor Amir Teymouri, described the incident as an attack by the United States.

According to Teymouri, the vessel was hit at approximately 5:00 a.m. local time on September 13, or 1:30 a.m. GMT. The incident occurred in the area of Hengam Island and the Shib Deraz coast on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.

Report by British maritime service

Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that a vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz had been hit by an unidentified projectile. At that time, the service did not report any fatalities, casualties, or damage to the vessel.

Iranian authorities did not release further details about the vessel or the circumstances of the strike.
